THE MAIN BEACH
Fletcher Cove Beach Park
111 S Sierra Ave
The town's front porch — a ramp (no stairs!) down to a sandy cove, with a blufftop park, playground, and basketball half-court above. Lifeguarded year-round and the easiest choice with kids or a cooler.

TIDEPOOLS
Tide Beach Park
Pacific Ave at Solana Vista Dr
The north end's quieter stretch — famous for tidepools at negative low tide, when the reef comes alive with anemones, crabs, and the occasional octopus. Go early, bring reef shoes.

SURF BREAK
Seascape Surf Beach Park
501 S Sierra Ave
South-end access below the Seascape Shores condos — a long stairway down to a consistent beach break locals just call "Suckouts." Less crowded sand and good waves when the tide cooperates.

SOUTH LINE
Del Mar Shores access
Del Mar Shores Terrace
The southernmost stairway in town, on the Del Mar line — steep steps to a wide stretch of sand that connects to Del Mar's beaches at lower tides. Sunset-photo territory.

Wide, flat sand at 15th Street with Powerhouse Park lawn above — the classic bring-everyone beach day.
Best for: groups & volleyball

DEL MARNorth Beach (Dog Beach)
Del Mar's river-mouth stretch where dogs run off-leash all winter. Chaotic, joyful, sandy.
Best for: dogs off-leash (Sep–Jun)

LA JOLLATorrey Pines State Beach
Miles of sand under dramatic sandstone cliffs, with the reserve's hiking trails right above.
Best for: hike + swim combo

CARDIFFCardiff State Beach
Mellow longboard waves at the reef, easy lot parking, and Cardiff's restaurant row across the 101.
Best for: learning to surf
6 MIN NORTH
CARDIFFSan Elijo State Beach
The campground classic — fall asleep to waves, wake up and paddle out. Book sites months ahead.

ENCINITASMoonlight State Beach
Encinitas' family hub — fire rings, snack bar, volleyball, and gentle waves in a sandy cove.
Best for: bonfires & families
Know before you go
Check the tide
At high tide the sand nearly disappears against the bluffs — plan around the tide chart, not the clock.
Stay off the bluffs
The sandstone cliffs are unstable and collapse without warning. Keep back from the base and the edge.
Dogs on leash
Leashed dogs are welcome on the beach before 8am and after 6pm in summer; check posted signs.
No fires or glass
No bonfires, no alcohol, no glass on the sand. Grills are OK up top at Fletcher Cove park.
