La Colonia Park

La Colonia Park anchors La Colonia de Eden Gardens, one of Solana Beach's oldest neighborhoods, settled in the 1920s by Mexican farm families working the ranches of what's now Rancho Santa Fe. The park itself exists because of them: a 1974 San Diego Human Relations Commission report criticized the county for neglecting the neighborhood's recreational needs, and the park followed in the late 1970s.

Today it's the most active rec facility in town outside Fletcher Cove — a 5,500-square-foot skatepark (opened April 2019, designed by SITE Design Group and built by California Skateparks) with stair sets, handrails, hubbas, banks, and a bowl-pocket/quarterpipe combo, alongside a full-size basketball court, a pickleball court, a turf field for soccer and pickup games, and a playground.

The Solana Beach Heritage Museum sits inside the park in a ranch house that once belonged to Susannah Stevens — the pioneer for whom Stevens Avenue is named. La Casita de Gloria Teen Center and the La Colonia Boys & Girls Club neighbor the park, along with El Jardín de los Niños, a children's community garden, and La Colonia Community Center (same 715 Valley Ave address) offers meeting space, classes, and public Wi-Fi.
